FAQ for COVID-19
Throughout this unprecedented time, please do not hesitate to reach out to gradstudy@cnu.edu with any questions. We are available to respond via email or video appointments. More information about classes and campus access in general is available on the Captains Relaunch site linked at the top of every page.
Yes, we encourage you to complete all forms electronically. Graduate forms may be found on the Current Students page linked in the navigation menu on the right. Approval of forms sent from your CNU account will count as your digital signature and will be included in our records.
Graduate Studies has six emails that are frequently checked: gradstudy@cnu.edu for general questions, gradadmit@cnu.edu for questions about admission, and mfina@cnu.edu, mat@cnu.edu, apcs@cnu.edu and envs@cnu.edu for questions about our four graduate programs.
Graduate students must complete all of their work toward a master’s degree within a period of six calendar years. We believe that the current situation will not put any students at risk of exceeding this deadline. However, please contact Graduate Studies if you are concerned.
Until further notice, all out-of-state university-funded travel is prohibited. In-state travel should be avoided. If you need to travel for any purpose related to your master’s degree, please contact Graduate Studies beforehand. Travel details can be found in President Trible’s communication of March 16, available on the COVID-19 communication page linked below.
Commencement for August 2019, December 2019 and May 2020 bachelor’s and master’s graduates is planned for the weekend of May 1 - 2, 2021, the weekend preceding commencement exercises for the Class of 2021.
All students, graduate and undergraduate, who are diagnosed with COVID-19 should email CNU to let them know of their situation as quickly as possible. Graduate students should email gradstudy@cnu.edu.
All standardized tests now have a way to take the exam. Please visit their individual websites for directions, or contact gradstudy@cnu.edu.
The policy for each program is as follows:
- MFinA: The GMAT requirement will be waived this year for Fall 2021 applicants.
- MAT: All students must take Praxis.
- MS-ENVS: 2021 applicants should send email to envs@cnu.edu for an essay prompt in lieu of a GRE score.
- MS-APCS: 2021 applicants traditional students should take the GRE.

Program Specific Questions
The director of the teacher preparation program has been in contact with all MAT students. If you have additional questions, please contact mat@cnu.edu or gradstudy@cnu.edu.
The GMAT requirement has been waived for MFinA students entering fall 2020. If you have additional questions, please contact mfina@cnu.edu or gradstudy@cnu.edu.
Proposal and thesis defenses should be moved to the virtual environment and Graduate Studies is willing to aid in that set up. Please notify gradstudy@cnu.edu about any thesis defenses.
Graduate Studies will create a Google meet video chat to review the thesis format. Deadlines for thesis review can be found on the For Students page.
We encourage all students to find a way to work from home. If that is not possible, contact the graduate program director of your program. If you require access to a lab on campus, please ask your adviser and graduate program director to send an email to pamela.gaddis@cnu.edu and gradstudy@cnu.edu indicating what building and labs you need swipe access to. The email should contain your name, your status (five-year or graduate) and your student ID. The email must come from a faculty member, not from a student.
