Frequently Asked Questions

The following information may help you avoid getting a parking citation and may answer some of the questions you have about parking at CNU.

The university provides a structured means to appeal citations. Forms and complete information are available at the Parking Services Office. Individual appeals to members of the parking staff will not be entertained.

  • I didn't know I wasn't supposed to park there.
  • I was only there for a few minutes.
  • I have parked in that spot for the last few years.
  • I was late for class.
  • The person in the parking lot told me I could park there.
  • I don't think it's fair.
  • There was no fire so I parked in the fire lane.
  • I had to go to the bathroom really bad.
  • There was no sign saying I can't park there.
  • Someone else was driving my vehicle.
  • There weren't any parking spots available.
  • The weather was bad and I didn't want to walk.
  • I usually park off campus.
  • I didn't have time or the money to get a decal.

Fines may be paid at the Parking Services Office by: check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, Captains Cash or with cash; coins will not be accepted.

Yes. If you are parked illegally with or without flashers, you will receive a parking citation. You will also receive a citation even if you leave a note when the vehicle is parked appropriately but without a decal. Enforcement officers do not recognize notes as valid parking decals.

Yes, all vehicles parked on campus MUST display a valid parking decal at all times. Parking Services will provide visitors with parking passes at no charge during our normal business hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). Visitors may also obtain a temporary pass from the University police located on 12270 Warwick Blvd. (every day, 24 hours a day).

No, the actual visitor must go to Parking Services to get the temporary pass.

All university fees and fines are set by the Board of Visitors.

In the absence of a sign at the entrance to a parking area, refer to the map to determine parking regulations for that area. Any modifications to a parking area during the academic year will be posted on signs at the entrance to the lot and the change will be effective immediately. Please report any tampering of signs to the Parking Services Office.

If your decal has been stolen, contact Campus Police immediately. A police report will need to be completed before you will receive your replacement decal. Filing a false police report will result in disciplinary action. For lost decals, contact Parking Services to receive your new decal. There is a replacement fee of $20.

Yes, you may be fined for improper display if your decal is not correctly displayed on your vehicle.

Yes, you can receive a temporary parking pass from Parking Services that will allow you to park in your regular designated spots for no charge. You must bring a valid ID.

Yes, the handicap spaces are for the use of students, faculty and staff members.

No, all handicap passes are available from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Parking Services is part of Auxiliary Services and therefore receives no state or federal funds. Parking Services relies on decal fees and citation revenue to support the direct and indirect costs of operations. This includes but is not limited to: construction of new parking areas, maintenance of existing parking areas, enforcement, lighting.
