Tips and suggestions for students on how to get involved in the sustainability movement on campus:

Paid opportunities are available through both the Center for Sustainability in Education and Office for Sustainability. Check out Handshake for open positions and/or sign up for our updates with the Get Involved Interest Form. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay updated on announcements.

There are internships, capstones and independent studies that allow you to focus your work on topics of your choosing. Contact your program director for more information and reach out to us to explore options.

We've worked with students who've received credit in the following courses:

  • COMM 491 or 291 - Practicum in Communication
  • HONR 382 - Civic Engagement
  • INST 490 - Environmental Studies Capstone
  • Bonner Scholar capstone
  • President's Leadership Program internship
  • Ferguson Fellowship
  • COLL 277 - The Internship: A Course for Your Career

We're always looking for new partners so if you have an idea, talk to your program director.

We've developed a list of courses that include sustainability. If we're missing a course you've taken that includes a sustainability unit or module, completed a class project around sustainability, or includes sustainability in some other way, contact and tell us about it.

Depending on the course, your professor may give you space in the assignments to explore a topic of your choosing or have projects, papers or other opportunities built into the class that allow you to get credit for sustainability work. We’re always willing to assist you in these assignments and projects however we can.

Below are some courses that students have completed either individual or group sustainability assignments:

  • COMM 321 - Communication and Film
  • ENG 123 - First-Year Writing Seminar
  • ENG 326 - Writing About the Environment
  • ENST 220 - Intro to Environmental Studies
  • GEOG 311 - Geography of the Human-Environment Interaction
  • LDSP 250 - Environmental Leadership

Have you completed an assignment or project around a sustainability topic for a course we don't have listed? Let us know about it!

Make sure sustainability topics are being discussed. Have your organization seek out opportunities to collaborate with us and other entities on campus who are working in sustainability.

Here are some organizations to consider joining:

  • Residence Hall Association
  • Student Government Association's Student Sustainability Commission
  • Student Diversity and Equality Council

Use this directory of student organizations that work in a facet of sustainability to get plugged into work going on at CNU. Should your organization be on this list? Contact us and let us know!
