Alpha Psi Omega is the nationally recognized honorary fraternity for theater arts.

The purpose of the Alpha Delta Zeta cast of Alpha Psi Omega is “…to stimulate professionalism, educational opportunities and interest in dramatic activities at Christopher Newport University, to secure for the university all of the advantages and mutual support by a large national honorary fraternity and to recognize student participation in university theater productions.”

Recent activities and sponsored events:

  • Production talkbacks

  • Staged readings of classic and contemporary plays
  • Cabarets
  • Talent shows
  • No Shame Theater, a unique open mic night

Students are eligible for membership once they have met the following requirements:

  • Completion of at least two semesters of participation in theater work at the university
  • A minimum of 75 points earned through participation in a variety of production tasks (acting, directing, playwriting, technical theatre, etc.)
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Students who meet the above criteria submit a letter of intent for evaluation and review by the executive board of Alpha Psi Omega. The letter outlines reasons for joining and records involvement in theater.

Students will be notified of the executive board’s decision. Once accepted as a pledge member, students form a class in which they undergo a pledge period until officially inducted as members. Once members, students must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA, continue active participation and regularly attend the cast’s biweekly meetings.
