Success Coaching
At CNU, Success Coaches are full-time professionals who work one-on-one to provide students with semester-long academic support in areas such as time management, procrastination, test preparation, note taking and/or reading strategies. Student Success staff work individually with students, assess their strengths and needs, and devise a personalized plan of action. Student Success staff members can also assist incoming students with the transition from high school (or from a previous college) to Christopher Newport University.
Students typically meet with a Student Success staff member for success coaching 3-4 appointments/semester (but may request more). We recommend students come in early and often to gain the most benefit. The average student will meet with their coach at the beginning of the term, again at the three week mark, after midterms, and then again prior to final exams. In each of these sessions, the student has the opportunity to share concerns or struggles, get feedback, learn new strategies and then plenty of time to test new techniques and report back on the success of incorporating new strategies.
The ultimate goal of success coaching is to promote an individual’s self-efficacy and confidence during their time at Christopher Newport University.
