Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business

Executive Mentorship Program

In cooperation with the Luter Board of Advisors, the Executive Mentorship Program offers Luter students the opportunity to enhance their business leadership skills and gain business exposure and advice through interaction with business professionals and community leaders. These successful business professionals and community leaders volunteer their time to work one-on-one with Luter students to cultivate a rewarding and educational experience. The mentors share their insights and experiences, provide career guidance regarding expectations, networking and leadership skills, and community/social responsibility, and aid students in making contacts within the business community.

If selected for the program, students will

  • Learn about the mentor's current position, business and industry and his/her path to this career
  • Enhance their knowledge of business operations and management techniques
  • Improve their leadership, networking, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Gain insights regarding expectations employers have for new graduates
  • Make contacts within the business community

Students selected for the program are expected to contact their mentors to schedule meetings, to arrive punctually and to be prepared for each meeting, to respond to their mentor's telephone calls and e-mails promptly, to keep any confidences shared by your mentor, to behave in a courteous, attentive and professional manner, and to maintain the CNU Honor Code at all times. Students must attend an orientation before initial contact with their mentors.

The program runs from January to December. The number of meetings is at the discretion of the mentor but the recommended number of meetings is three per semester or approximately one per month. Ideally this will cover the spring term of the junior year and the fall term of the senior year.

Students are selected and matched on the basis of the letter of interest, a résumé, references and mentor interests and background. The number of students selected is limited to the availability of mentors participating in the program.

An application will be available on this site in October of each year with a deadline in November. Successful applicants will be notified before Christmas.
