Luter Signature Program

The Luter Signature Program is a comprehensive educational experience designed to help students better understand the world of business, explore career opportunities and build the personal and professional capacities necessary for career success.

Luter students who commit to the Signature Program will:

  1. Learn about careers early on, to see where their true interests lie;
  2. Gain a better understanding of the interconnectedness of the primary areas in business, marketing, management, accounting and finance;
  3. Systematically prepare for success in the business world;
  4. Increase their knowledge about career opportunities and expectations;
  5. Learn what it means to be a professional in their field of interest or major;
  6. Set themselves apart by acquiring the qualities associated with professional success:
    • Interpersonal skills
    • Professional appearance
    • Ethical behavior
    • Communication skills
    • Time management
    • Situational analysis and behavior
    • A good work ethic
    • Being knowledgeable
    • Confidence
    • Etiquette
    • Being courteous
    • Building and maintaining relationships

Requirements

Our goal in Luter is to graduate students who not only have developed great skills within their chosen major, but also the necessary professional skills that allow them to excel in both the business world and graduate programs of their choice.

The program has three parts:

  • Mandatory events
  • Academic electives (choose at least one)
  • Professional electives (choose at least one)

Not all events will be offered each year but sufficient events will occur during your time in Luter to provide you with sufficient scope to build a set of components that meets your needs and interests.

Recognition

Students who complete the Luter Signature Program will receive a certificate and a signature lapel pin. These will be awarded to the students during the Luter awards ceremony in May for May graduates and at a mutually agreed upon venue for December and August graduates.

Students are required to complete the list of activities below as the first step in this program. These activities are designed to help you perform better both in the classroom and beyond. The skills and knowledge gained through these activities and events are essential components to your success as business students, and will allow you to hit the ground running not only in Luter but in your career following graduation.

  • Welcome to Luter orientation session
  • Resume writing and review
  • Internship
  • Writing improvement program (WIP)
  • Business conference (BusX) participation
  • Luter lecture series attendance (one per semester)
  • Slice of Business Life attendance (three per semester)
  • Community service 25 hours

Through these opportunities, you will be able to gain practical skills and put what you have learned in the classroom into action. Many of these academic opportunities will help you to improve your ability to communicate ideas and who you are in a clear and compelling way, which is essential to your overall success.
