Make a Deposit
Deposits may be made to a cardholder's Captains Cash account four different ways:

Captains Cash Kiosk (cash or credit card) - Must have your Captains Card and credit card, if using one, with you. The kiosk is located directly beside the ATM in the David Student Union. Temporarily Unavailable.

Online (credit card) - Deposits can be made via our online portal. There is a $2.50 convenience fee for each online deposit. Thank you for using our online system to deposit Captains Cash. As a welcome to the CNU campus, we are waiving the $2.50 fee through Sunday, August 25. Fees will resume on Monday, August 26.
- In person (cash or check)
- Go to the Cashiers' Office on the 1st floor of Christopher Newport Hall, and tell them you want to make a deposit on your Captains Card.
- Once the money is received by the Cashiers' Office, it can take up to 24 hours before it is available in your account.

By mail (cash or check) - We recommend all deposits be accompanied by a Captains Cash Deposit Mail In Form to ensure the money is accurately credited to your Captains Cash account.

Check Your Balance or Get a Refund
- You can check the balance of your Captains Cash and Dining Dollars by visiting the kiosk, any register or by logging in online.
- Balances can not be transferred to any other account on the Captains Card.
- If you have a negative balance, you are responsible for bringing your account current. The Captains Card Office will notify you requesting a deposit.
- Captains Cash funds will carry forward as long as you are enrolled or employed by the University and the account is used at least once per semester.
Note: Cash withdrawals are not permitted at any time, from any account.
- Students who are graduating or withdrawing from the University may request a refund at the end of the semester.
- Faculty or staff who leave the employment of the University may also request a refund at the end of their tenure.
- It is the cardholder's responsibility to provide a completed Refund Request form to the Captains Card Office. Monies deposited by the University as a credit are not eligible for a refund.
- Dining Dollars, Laundry Funds and Print Funds are not eligible for refunds.
- There must be a minimum of $5 in Captains Cash to request a refund.
- Captains Cash deposited by the University as a credit are not eligible for a refund.
A Captains Cash account will be considered inactive if it has not been used at least once within a one (1) year period of time. After one year of inactivity and if the cardholder has not provided a completed refund request, the funds will become the property of CNU.
Note: Neither the Captains Card Office nor the DSU Welcome Desk can release account information over the phone.
FERPA rights transfer to the student (referred to as "eligible student") when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a post-secondary institution. Therefore, the student, and not the parent, may access seek to amend, and consent to disclosures of his or her education records. This means that the cardholder has access to the information on the account (including balances). The Captains Card office and DSU Welcome Desk can not release any information related to the Captains Card (including accounts) to any person over the phone or by email.
