Disability Support

Frequently Asked Questions

We encourage students to begin this process as soon as possible. Testing can take some time, so it is important to plan accordingly. We strongly encourage students seeking accommodations for the first time to submit documentation early so you are prepared for the academic year.

You can submit documentation for review, but it may need to be updated depending on the circumstances of each case.

There is not one person at CNU responsible for disability support. Several staff help support students through the process. Please contact the Office of Student Affairs at dosa@cnu.edu or (757) 594–7160.

Once you have submitted the appropriate documentation, the student affairs staff will review and grant reasonable accommodations. You will be notified via email to pick up your accommodation letter and disability packet in the Office of the Registrar.

Give your accommodation letter to faculty to sign. The letter does not disclose the disability, but lists what accommodations you can receive.

Testing must be from within the last three years. Once you has your disability on file and are receiving accommodations, you no longer need updated tests, unless you choose. Disability records are kept in the Office of Student Affairs.

If you have any questions about accessibility at Christopher Newport, please contact the Digital Accessibility Program Manager, Maggie Vaughan, at maggie.vaughan@cnu.edu
