Fire and Life Safety
EHS aims to reduce the risk of fire at the university by conducting building inspections, developing plans, and training employees and students in fire and life safety. This function also provides special event assistance to the university community by providing guidance for events that include the use of pyrotechnics (fireworks) and/or temporary structures.
Fire Safety Inspections are conducted for three main reasons:
- To limit the incidence of fire by rectifying situations posing an increased risk of fires occurring. (Unauthorized Heater, Extension Cords, Pressurized Containers)
- To limit the risk posed by fire when they occur, by ensuring the appropriate risk limitation tools are present to maximize life safety and restrict fire spread. (Alarm Systems, Sprinkler Systems, Fire Extinguishers, Egress Solutions)
- Educating, advocating and promoting prudent Fire and Life Safety risk reduction measures and behaviors.
EHS is dedicated to delivering a Fire & Life Safety Plan that outlines the various responsibilities, activities, and procedures that the university observes to reduce the potential for fires and life safety should one occur on university property.

Portable Fire Extinguishers
This online course enables you to identify the three elements of fire, classify fires, list the steps involved in inspecting a fire extinguisher, and list the steps required to extinguish a fire.
CPR
The Adult First Aid/CPR/AED blended learning course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults. Allow approximately 2 hours to complete the online portion. The online course must be completed prior to attending the classroom portion of blended learning with EHS.
