The study of history embodies the true spirit of the liberal arts, bridging the humanities, social sciences, and natural and behavioral sciences.
History coursework develops many skills, including:
- Researching and critically evaluating competing interpretations
- Preparing and presenting persuasive arguments in oral and written forms
- Applying the past to understand current events and trends
- Reconstructing complex events
History also helps prepare students for careers in a variety of fields. After graduation, our alumni have entered business, law, politics and international development, public administration, public history and museum work, teaching at all levels, archaeology, foreign service, and the military. They also have been accepted into top graduate programs in a variety of fields, both here and abroad.
