Upperclassman Move-In

Move-in will begin on Monday, July 29, 2024, for Extended Apartments, which include:

  • Rappahannock River
  • Greek Village
  • CNU Apartments: Harrison, Jefferson and Madison

Move-in will begin on Friday, August 23, 2024, for Apartments and Main Campus, which include:

  • James River
  • Potomac River South
  • Warwick River
  • CNU Landing
  • CNU Village
  • Presidents
  • CNU Apartments: Monroe and Washington

  • All students will be required to register for a date and time that best meets their needs. Registration instructions will be available at a later date.
  • Because of this coordinated effort, students should not request to arrive in advance of the dates designated for their specific residential area. Students required to return early for a university-sponsored event, employment, athletic team or marching band must have their name submitted via their coach, employer or other University sponsor.
  • To speed up the unloading process, residents should pack lightly and efficiently, focusing on essentials. Consolidate items into bins and boxes so the vehicle can be unloaded in minimal trips. Residents should not bring additional furniture such as futons, sofas, chairs, etc.
  • Residents must unload in their selected time frame and move their vehicle from the unloading area as soon as all belongings have been removed.
  • Label all items with the student's name and room number.
  • Consolidate items into as few vehicles as possible. You can visit nearby stores later to purchase consumables and other items.
  • A limited number of wheeled carts and bins will be available to use on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are encouraged to bring their own carts, wagons, etc.

While there is no formal registration process for move-in, please review all move-in instructions to ensure a smooth arrival to campus.

Apartments and Main Campus (occupancy period beginning on August 23)

Extended Apartments

Apartments

  • August 23 through 25
    • includes CNU Landing, Monroe, Presidents Hall, Washington, Taylor, Tyler, and Wilson

Main Campus

  • August 23 through 25
    • includes James River Hall, Potomac River Hall South, and Warwick River Hall

  • At the start of your registered time (if applicable), report to the designated unloading area
  • Proceed to the check-in location to register with Residence Life Staff (see directions below).
  • Residents will have their CNU ID card encoded at this time and receive room keys (if applicable).
  • If the ID card has been lost or damaged, stop first at the David Student Union Welcome Desk. You may view the hours of operation on the Captains Card website. 
  • Residents will receive instructions for completing a room condition form via their cnu.edu email. 

Please follow these instructions if you reside in Rappahannock River, Greek Village, Harrison, Jefferson, and Madison.

For Arrival July 29 Through August 14

  • Staff will be available to check you into your residence hall during limited hours.
    • Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
    • Saturday and Sunday, 10:00am to 2:00pm
  • Please follow the instructions below based on the day and time of your arrival to campus.
    • Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
      • Upon arrival to campus, proceed to the Residence Life and Housing Administration office on the third floor of the David Student Union to check-in.
      • Once checked in, proceed to the Welcome Desk on the first floor of the David Student Union to encode your CNU ID.
      • Once you have encoded your CNU ID, proceed to the parking area near your building to unload.
    • Saturday and Sunday, 10:00am to 2:00pm
      • Arrive on campus by turning east onto University Place.
      • Turn right into the East Campus complex between CNU Village and CNU Landing.
      • Park in spots near the entry to CNU Village.
      • Proceed to the East Campus Area Office on the 2nd floor of Tyler Hall to encode your CNU ID. 
      • Once checked in, proceed to the parking area near your building to unload.

For Arrival August 15 Through August 25

  • Staff will be available to check you into your residence hall during limited hours.
    • Greek Village and Rappahannock
      • Check-in will be available at the Warwick West desk from 9am to 9pm, every day.
    • Harrison, Jefferson, and Madison
      • Check-in will be available at the East Campus Area Office, located on the 2nd floor of Tyler, from 10:30am-8pm Monday-Friday and 11am-4pm Saturday-Sunday.
  • Please follow the instructions below based on your residence hall.
    • Greek Village and Rappahannock
      • Arrive on campus via Warwick Blvd by turning West onto Prince Drew Rd.
      • Continue West on Prince Drew Rd until reaching the entry point between Lots E2 and E3.
      • Check-in at the Warwick West front desk by entering Warwick via the entrance closest to the Commons dining hall.
      • Once checked-in, proceed to the parking area near your building to unload.
    • Harrison, Jefferson, and Madison
      • Arrive on campus by turning east onto University Place.
      • Turn right into the East Campus complex between CNU Village and CNU Landing.
      • Park in spots near the entry to CNU Village.
      • Proceed to the East Campus Area Office on the 2nd floor of Tyler Hall to encode your CNU ID.
      • Once checked in, proceed to the parking area near your building to unload.

Please follow these instructions if you reside in James River, Potomac River South, Warwick River, CNU Landing, CNU Village (Taylor, Tyler, Wilson), Presidents, Monroe, and Washington.

CNU Landing, Taylor, Tyler, Wilson, Monroe, Washington, and Presidents

  • Arrive on campus by turning East onto University Place.
  • Turn right into the East Campus complex between CNU Village and CNU Landing.
  • Park in spots near the entry to CNU Village.
  • Proceed to the East Campus Area Office on the 2nd floor of Tyler Hall to encode your CNU ID.
  • Once checked in, proceed to the parking area near your building to unload.
  • Once unloaded, move vehicles away from the building entry to allow others to unload close to the building. 

James River Hall

  • Arrive on-campus via Warwick Blvd by turning West onto University Place.
  • Continue West on University Place until reaching Lot F.
  • Park in Lot F and check in at the front desk.
  • Once checked in, please unload quickly.
  • Once unloaded, move vehicles elsewhere on campus to allow others to unload close to the building.
  • Parking is available in Lots E3, E4, I, G, and H. 

Potomac River Hall South

  • Arrive on-campus via Avenue of the Arts.
  • Turn left onto Shoe Lane.
  • Turn right onto Moore’s Lane.
  • Turn right onto the roadway behind Potomac River Hall South.
  • Use the sidewalk to walk between the two buildings, and then turn right to proceed to the entrance to Potomac River Hall South.
  • Check-in at the front desk.
  • Once checked-in, park in an available space in Lot K or L to unload.
  • Once unloaded, move vehicles elsewhere on campus to allow others to unload close to the building. Parking is available in Lots G, H, E3, E4, and I.

Warwick River Hall

  • Arrive on-campus via Warwick Blvd by turning West onto Prince Drew Rd.
  • Continue West on Prince Drew Rd. until reaching the entry point between Lots E2 and E3.
  • Check-in at the Warwick East front desk by entering Warwick via the entrance closest to the Warwick Blvd/Lot E1.
  • Once checked in, park in the unloading zone in parking Lot E2
  • Once unloaded, move vehicles elsewhere on campus to allow others to unload close to the building
  • After vehicles are unloaded, parking is available in Lots E1, E2, E3 and E4

  • On Main Campus and Rappahannock River Hall, a limited number of wheeled carts and bins will be available to use on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All residents are encouraged to bring their own carts and hand trucks.
  • Vehicles must be unloaded in the selected time block.
  • Once unloaded, move vehicles from the unloading area to make space for others to unload.
  • Residents and their helpers may return to the room to continue setting up.
  • After unpacking, break down boxes, bag trash and remove all debris to designated trash locations. Please do not leave trash in hallways, lounges, stairwells or parking lots.

  • Campus traffic and parking during move-in will be congested, so please be patient.
  • Drive carefully and watch for pedestrians.
  • Do not park on the grass, in front of fire hydrants or along yellow curbs.
  • Display DMV-issued permit to park in handicapped spaces.
  • Once unloaded, move vehicles away from the unloading area to make space for others.

  • Contact roommate(s) to discuss which items to bring (storage boxes, TV, gaming system, etc.) in order to eliminate duplicate items.
  • Review the family’s homeowner’s, renter’s and/or health insurance policies and obtain additional coverage if necessary. CNU does not cover liability on any personal belongings.
  • Do not use screws, nails, duct tape, masking tape, double-sided foam tape (with or without hooks) or any other method of hanging things that may cause damage or leave residue on residence hall walls. Residents are responsible for any damage(s) they may cause.
