Student Success

For Juniors

As upperclassmen, you have reached the point where the end is in sight. You've settled into an academic major and have started looking ahead to what's next after graduation (and if not, that's OK, we can help).

Here you will find resources and information, sorted by academic year, to help you plan ahead and make the most of your remaining time at CNU. We encourage you to explore both the junior and senior sections, as you may find relevant information for your specific needs on either page. If you are in need of academic support to help you successfully reach graduation day, please email academicsuccess@cnu.edu or call (757) 594-7684.

Survey

We seek your input on programming that will meet your needs as a rising junior or senior. We realize that you lead a busy life and want to provide workshops that will best meet those needs while fitting into your schedule.

Please take a moment to complete the survey under Learn More to help us identify workshop topics that would be valuable to you, and to determine convenient times to hold potential workshops.

Your junior year is the perfect time to engage in one or more of the four pillars of CNU:

  • Apply for an internship
  • Participate in research in your field of study
  • Sign up for a study abroad trip
  • Give back by serving CNU and local community.

It's also the time to make sure you are on track for graduation. The junior checklist provides you with important reminders and to-do list items to help you with academics, graduation preparation, career building and finances.

Tips for Juniors

  1. Stay on top of assignments and important deadlines. We can help you create a time management plan for your senior year.
  2. If you are unsure about your major and are considering making changes, meet with a career counselor in the Center for Career Planning (CCP), located on the third floor of CNH. If you don't already have a resume or LinkedIn profile, it's time to set one up. CCP can help!
  3. Run a degree evaluation in CNU Live to view your remaining requirements. Meet with a degree analyst in the Registrar's Office (located on the first floor of CNH) to review it and confirm that you'll be on track.
  4. Familiarize yourself with graduation requirements.
  5. Create a CNU bucket list of all the things you want to do here before you graduate.
  6. Manage your stress. If you need help, reach out to the Office of Counseling Services; participate in Stress Less Week before exams; or talk to your friends, family, or faculty and staff on campus.
  7. Stay healthy during your junior year by getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
  8. Plan ahead for your future. Create or update your resume, meet with the Center for Career Planning, attend the Career Fair, and start researching graduate schools or potential jobs.
  9. Create a budget (if you haven't already) and start saving for student loan repayment, credit card debt and other future expenses.
