Student Success

For Seniors

As upperclassmen, you have reached the point where the end is in sight. You've settled into an academic major and have started looking ahead to what's next after graduation (and if not, that's OK, we can help).

Here you will find resources and information, sorted by academic year, to help you plan ahead and make the most of your remaining time at CNU. We encourage you to explore both the junior and senior sections, as you may find relevant information for your specific needs on either page. If you are in need of academic support to help you successfully reach graduation day, please email academicsuccess@cnu.edu or call (757) 594-7684.

Survey

We seek your input on programming that will meet your needs as a rising junior or senior. We realize that you lead a busy life and want to provide workshops that will best meet those needs while fitting into your schedule.

Please take a moment to complete the survey under Learn More to help us identify workshop topics that would be valuable to you, and to determine convenient times to hold potential workshops.

Senior year can be exciting – and stressful. The senior checklist is designed to help you minimize that stress by providing information and resources to help you thrive your senior year. The senior checklist is broken down by semester and includes important reminders, deadlines, resources and activities for you to engage in during your senior year.

Tips for Seniors

Check out these tips to find links to several valuable websites and suggestions to help you address issues including "senioritis," motivation, stress, "adulting" and more.

  1. Stay on top of assignments and important deadlines. We can help you create a time management plan for your senior year. Feeling unmotivated? Meet with an academic coach to help you get back on track.
  2. Review graduation requirements to make sure you are on track. Students may not have more than two grades below a C- in their major (some majors have more stringent requirements).
  3. Make sure you're set to fulfill all requirements for graduation. Meet with a degree analyst in the Registrar's Office to review your degree evaluation and confirm that you will meet all requirements.
  4. Start checking things off of your CNU bucket list! Don't have one? Make a list of all the things you want to do here before you graduate, and get started.
  5. Manage your stress. If you need help, reach out to the Office of Counseling Services; participate in Stress Less Week before exams; or talk to your friends, family, or faculty and staff on campus.
  6. Stay healthy during your senior year by getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
  7. Plan ahead for your future. Update your resume, meet with the Center for Career Planning, attend the Career Fair and start to apply to graduate school or for potential jobs. Think ahead to where you may live after graduation and start looking for housing/roommates in your new city.
  8. Create a pre- and post-graduation budget. Student loans will kick in after graduation and you'll need to have an idea of how much rent you can afford.
  9. Contact the post office a few weeks before graduation to update your mailing address.
  10. Pay off all fines (parking, library, etc.)
