For Sophomores
CNU's second-year programming aims to help you succeed by providing opportunities to foster meaningful campus connections, to enhance a sense of belonging and to connect current experiences with future goals.
You may find that your second year is a time of exploration, maybe more so than your first year of college. Here are some of the questions you might have this year:
- What major will I declare at Signing Day in February?
- How can I get involved? How can I get more involved? How can I develop my leadership skills?
- What do I want to do with my life? What can I do with a degree in my major?
- Do I want to study abroad? Where do I want to study abroad? How can I afford to study abroad?
- How do I get involved with research on campus? How do I find professors with research interests that match mine? How do I start a conversation with a professor about research?
- Why are internships important? When should I start thinking about internships? I hear internships are important, but I don’t know what I want do – should I still get an internship?
- Am I the only one who feels the way I do?
- Am I the only one who feels like I’m struggling more this year than I did last year?
- How can I improve my grades? How can I improve my study skills? How should I study?
Second-year programming can help you navigate all of these questions to help you have your best year possible. We hope to provide you with a variety of opportunities to engage with other second-year students with similar questions this year and to provide you resources on campus to help you answer your questions.

Signing Day
All second-year students officially declare their major!
In February, all academic departments will be present in the DSU Ballroom. All second-year students will come dressed for success, signed on the dotted line and meet their professors and fellow students within their newly declared major.
