Office Phones
You can check your voicemail a few different ways, including:
Dial-in
- Dial a university-owned phone number, e.g., (757) 594-xxxx.
- When you hear the voicemail greeting, press *.
- At the next prompt, press #.
- When prompted, enter your last five digits of your phone number (i.e., 4xxxx).
- Enter the password for your extension, and then press #.
- Most phones send a copy of the voicemail to your cnu.edu email.
- Be sure to check your “All Mail” folder in Google Mail, if you are not seeing messages in your Inbox.
Mitel Client (Windows/Apple)
- Once VPN is established, you can use the Mitel Client to retrieve your voicemail.
Refer to the instructional document to update your voicemail greeting.
Suggested greeting language (pandemic-specific):
Thank you for calling the (office name) at Christopher Newport University. Regrettably, our on-campus office is temporarily closed due to the coronavirus. I very much want to talk with you. I am monitoring this line and will return your call and answer your questions as quickly as possible. Please leave a message and I look forward to speaking with you.
Windows 10
- Yes, it is installed on every CNU Windows 10 computer. If not, place a ticket with IT Services via help.cnu.edu and they can help with the install.
macOS (Apple)
- If you are off-campus, connect to the university VPN (skip this step if you are on-campus).
- Visit phone.cnu.edu.
- Click on Download Connect for Mac.
To log in to the Mitel client, use your @cnu.edu email address and CNU Connect password. Click "Advanced settings" and enter phone.cnu.edu as the server to connect.
An instructional document has been created for the following tasks:
- Setting up call forwarding
- Voicemail settings
Yes, as long as you use the university’s VPN.
Additional instructional videos are available on the YouTube ShoreTel/Mitel Playlist.
Note: ShoreTel has merged with Mitel, so the videos may refer to ShoreTel, but all features/functionality will work with the Mitel Connect client.
