Judicial Holds
The Center for Honor Enrichment and Community Standards has the ability to place a judicial hold on a student’s CNU Live Account while conduct or honor code proceedings are under investigation, pending, or sanctions are incomplete.
CHECS uses the following three types of holds.
- Judicial Registration Hold
- A judicial registration (JR) hold may be placed on your record when you have not responded to a Notice of Incident or have past due sanctions. Additionally, a JR hold is placed on your record during a suspension period and/or upon dismissal from the University. A JR hold prevents students from registering or withdrawing from classes.
- Judicial Transcript Hold
- A judicial transcript (JT) hold is placed on a student’s account once an outcome of suspension or dismissal has been assigned. This hold will remain on a student’s account until the outcome has been finalized through the review and appeals process. A JT hold prevents students from receiving copies of their transcripts. To address the hold, come to the CHECS Office located in room 3142 located on the third floor in the David Student Union and/or call 757-594-7190.
Students who need a hold lifted to complete business with the University must complete a CHECS Hold Review Request Form. Once the form is received, a member of the CHECS office reviews the request and determines if the student is eligible for a 24-hour lift. This process can take up to two business days. Students are encourage to review their CNU Live page before the beginning of registration to allow time to resolve any outstanding requirements.
Students who have overdue sanctions will be required to compete some or all of the sanction before the hold is removed.
Examples of sanctions that must be completed before a hold is lifted include but are not limited to:
- Academic Integrity Module
- Alcohol Edu: Part 1
- Alcohol Edu: Part 2
- Cost
- Marijuana 101: Part 1
- Marijuana 101: Part 2
- Reflection Papers
Examples of sanctions that must show progress towards completion before a hold is lifted include but are not limited to:
- Assessments with Counseling Services
- CAAPS (Captain's Awareness of Alcohol Policies and Safety) Program
- Campus or Community Service
- Meetings with Center for Academic Success
If there are still remaining sanctions, the student will be required to sign a Past Due Sanction Agreement Form. Students who fail to complete sanctions by the specified guidelines are not in compliance with the expectations set out for them by CHECS. This can result in further sanctions, including the enforcement of deferred sanctions.
Students who had previously been granted a 24-hour lift will not be eligible for other lifts until all passed due sanctions are competed.
Note: The quickest way to have a hold removed from your account is to complete all overdue sanctions.
