Christopher Newport University Energy Management helps guide university operations and procedures to reduce energy consumption by developing and implementing energy conservation measures (ECMs) that streamline use, occupancy and resource consumption. The Energy Management Program strives to promote efficient use of university facilities and resources and reduce our environmental impact while providing an ideal setting for teaching and learning.
The Energy Management Guidelines provide best practices for reducing university-wide energy and water consumption and promote good stewardship of fiscal and environmental resources. These guidelines also reinforce the goals of the University Sustainability Committee and the Center for Sustainability in Education by outlining procedures and actions that assist Facilities Management and Auxiliary Operations, and the university community as a whole, to operate in the most sustainable manner possible. The university is committed to promoting energy conservation, sustainability, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and decreasing operating costs while providing an ideal teaching and learning environment focused on safety, energy and resource efficiency.
Energy Star Higher Education Benchmarking Initiative (HEBI)
The Energy Star HEBI was created to help colleges and universities benchmark the operational performance of their campuses and compare them to peer institutions around the country. Participation in the program was voluntary, and institutions were provided with an individualized scorecard of their performance. Christopher Newport participated in this initiative and our scorecard can be found below.
