Immunizations
Immunization Requirement
Based on the requirements for immunizations set forth in the Code of Virginia, § 23.1-800 a Certificate of Immunization form, detailing immunization requirements and including a Tuberculosis Screening Form, must be completed and signed/stamped by a licensed healthcare professional.
What is "Complete Documentation?"
For the protection of our students and the university community, Christopher Newport's immunization policy incorporates the requirements for immunizations set forth in the Code of Virginia, § 23.1-800 and requires that all entering first-time, full-time students submit a completed Certificate of Immunization to the Office of the Registrar. The intent of this policy is to provide a healthy environment for our students in which they can live and learn. If the record is incomplete or missing, the Office of the Registrar will contact those students via mail, phone and/or email.
To comply with state policy, students must provide a completed Certificate of Immunization form, have it signed by a licensed health care professional and submit it to the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible. Please be reminded that incomplete forms do not satisfy the state’s requirement. Until the completed Certification of Immunization form has been submitted and is in compliance with § 23.1-800 new students shall not be permitted to move into the residence halls, attend classes, or participate in University activities. In some cases, students may sign a waiver of the recommended immunization to comply with University and state policy.
