The Pope Chapel is a space that provides reflection, meditation and celebration in the heart of the campus.

The main hall, the celebration hall, is an open and inviting space that can seat up to 325 people. The dais (stage) is situated in front of a beautiful stained glass. The bride’s room located off of the atrium is a warm and comfortable space designed to calm the most nervous bride before her ceremony. On the other side of the atrium is a conference room suitable for up to 32 people. The quiet room, located behind the celebration hall is a space for all to use for reflection, meditation, and quiet.

This space is outfitted with the latest in audio-visual equipment that is designed to be unobtrusive but highly functional. There is projection capability in the celebration hall as well as inputs for microphones and additional speakers located on the dais. If there is a desire to record and broadcast an event in the celebration hall, such as a wedding ceremony, music recital or induction ceremony, there is ability to do that through our recording equipment and software.

The use of the chapel is for Christopher Newport University faculty, staff, students, graduated alumni and the children of anyone in those groups.

All rates are for facility rental only. Additional charges for equipment, labor and catering. Non-traditional reception space will be charged at the full normal rental rate. i.e. outside areas, Trible Library Rotunda, Freeman Center. Traditional reception areas are the David Student Union Ballroom and the Ferguson Center Music and Theater Hall Lobby and Concert Hall Lobby. The Chapel is not available for reception use.

CNU alumni, students, current faculty/staff, and the children of anyone in those groups

  • Rate: $500 paid by certified check, money order, credit card or cash
  • Two-hour blocks – all activities related to the wedding ceremony, i.e., decorating, ceremony, photography. Clean-up must be accomplished within this two-hour period
  • One-hour rehearsal time either the afternoon or evening preceding the wedding
  • Wedding ceremonies are booked when classes are not in session, i.e., spring break, summer break and fall break

CNU alumni, students, current faculty/staff, and the children of anyone in those groups

  • Rate for chapel and reception space: $1600
  • Total of 10 hours – Two hours for the wedding ceremony and eight hours for the reception to include all activities related to the wedding, i.e. decorating, ceremony, photography, reception. Clean-up must be accomplished in this 10-hour period
  • Reception packages can only be scheduled during school breaks, i.e. fall break, spring break, summer

CNU alumni, students, current faculty/staff, and the children of anyone in those groups

  • Rates: $1250
  • Up to eight hours - to include all activities related to the wedding, i.e. decorating, ceremony, photography, reception. Clean-up must be accomplished in this eight-hour period
  • Reception can only be scheduled during school breaks, i.e. fall break, spring break, summer

  • Rate: $2500 for up to eight hours
  • Space to include David Student Union Ballroom, Ferguson Center Music and Theater Hall Lobby and Concert Hall Lobby
  • Receptions can only be scheduled when school is not in session, i.e. fall break, spring break, summer

  • Livestreaming of the ceremony to off-site locations and download to DVD: $250
  • Piano/organ use: $350
  • Organist provided: $200
