Housing and Residence Life

We have over 200 staff that work and live here on campus who are excited to help you transition to campus life as well as your life beyond CNU.

  • Resident Assistants: Student staff who serve as your primary point of contact and help with things such as getting connected on campus, managing roommate conflicts, locating campus resources and even suggestions on what to do for the weekend!
  • Residential Fellows: Full-time professional staff members who live in the residence halls and can help you navigate important policies and procedures, assist in choosing the right student organization and provide resources that contribute to your overall well-being.
  • Central Office Staff: Full-time administrators who create policy, provide vision and guidance, and support the overall functioning of the residential living program here at Christopher Newport University.

Residence Life is dedicated to serving residential students and developing a safe and inclusive living-learning community that supports the academic mission of the university. Residence Life seeks to enhance the co-curricular experience and to facilitate the holistic growth of students to prepare them to pursue lives of significance and purpose and to become responsible and contributing members of society.

We manage room assignment information and administer the housing selection process, as well as assist you with

  • room assignments and changes
  • meal-plan requests
  • all housing related billing
  • requests for exemption from the residency requirement

We oversee all housekeeping and maintenance activities within the residence halls.

  • Online work order requests can be placed by any resident
  • If it is an emergency between 8 a.m.-5 p.m., please call our office directly
  • After-hours emergencies should be reported to the front desk of the residence hall in which you live. The staff there will contact CNU Police and the On-Call Emergency Maintenance
