- Items left behind may have a removal fee and any damage caused is still the resident’s responsibility.
- Review the Damage and Service Fee list for common damage charges and other fees.
- Do not leave any items behind. Common places to double check include:
- Under and behind the bed, desk, dresser, or other furniture
- In drawers, wardrobes, or other storage
- In the microfridge or refrigerator

- Each resident is responsible for cleaning their room, bathroom, and common areas in a unit. To avoid cleaning charges:
- Wipe down furniture and appliances.
- Appliances should be free of food items or other build up. Be sure to wipe/clean these items before departure.
- Remove any loose debris on the floor or in other areas of the room and unit.
- A resident’s room should be reasonably clean and at least in broom-swept clean condition at the time of check out.
- Other tips and reminders:
- If a resident does not check out with a staff member and completes the express checkout instead, the resident waives their opportunity to dispute a damage charge.
- If a resident is the last person checking out of a unit, be sure to double check common spaces to help avoid common area charges.
- If an item in the unit is broken or not working properly (toilet that fills constantly, leak, or other urgent items) please submit a work order at help.cnu.edu.
- Please do not submit work orders for normal wear and tear items.
- Work orders submitted for items considered damage may still result in damage charges.
