Move-Out Details
As the end of the academic year approaches, students should pay close attention to their CNU email for timely updates and reminders to help ensure a smooth move out process and avoid damage or other fees.
Beginning on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 9:00 PM, quiet hours are in effect 24 hours a day during finals. Failure to abide by quiet hour expectations and disrupt the community during finals may result in judicial action. Please refer to the Residence Life and Housing Administration Handbook for additional information.
Main Campus Halls close on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 10:00 AM
(York, Santoro, Potomac, Warwick, and James River)
- Residents in these buildings are expected to depart within 24-hours of their last final exam or by May 6th at 10:00 AM, whichever comes first.
- Graduating residents living on Main Campus may remain, at no cost, in their room until 10:00 AM on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Apartment Style Halls close on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM
(Presidents, CNU Landing, Harrison, Madison, Taylor, Tyler, and Wilson)
- RA suitemates must vacate by 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Extended Apartment Style Halls close on Monday, July 6, 2026.
(Rappahannock, Jefferson, Monroe, Washington, and Greek Village)
- RA suitemates must vacate by 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
In first-year and second-year residence halls, Resident Assistants (RAs) will hold a floor meeting to go over closing procedures and expectations, as well as tips for avoiding move-out related charges.
If residents need to stay in their on-campus housing after the date of their Main Campus residence hall's closure, residents must request a Late Stay through the Housing Portal. This form will be available beginning Monday, April 13, 2026 and will close at 5:00 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026. Students who are approved to stay after their residence hall closing date will be assessed a fee of $40 per additional day they reside in on-campus housing.If residents need May Term housing, Summer I, Summer II, Extended Summer, or summer meal plan information, login to the Housing Portal and select “Summer Housing”.

- Return any bedroom keys or mailroom keys (if you are not returning to housing in the
Fall semester) that you have been issued.- Residents who are not returning to housing in the Fall semester must return their
mailbox key to the Student Mailroom. - Residents who do not return their bedroom key will be charged a $100

- Remove all items you affixed to any surface in the room, including hooks, adhesive
strips, LED light strips, etc.
- Failure to remove items affixed to surfaces will result in a damage fee.
- If needed, review this video on how to remove Command brand adhesive strips.
- Review the Damage and Service Fee list for common damage charges and other
fees.
- Pack all of your belongings, and be sure not to leave any items behind.
- Double-check the following areas for any items that may be missed as you are
packing:- Dresser and desk drawers
- Bathroom areas, including showers and sink cabinets
- Closets and wardrobes
- Microfridge/refrigerator and microwave
- Under and behind your bed, desk, dresser, wardrobe, or other furniture.
- Behind doors
- Common spaces such as kitchens and living areas
- Items left behind may have a removal fee, and any damage caused is still your
responsibility.
- Double-check the following areas for any items that may be missed as you are
- Ensure that your room is reasonably clean.
- Wipe down surfaces, including your desk, tables, chairs, windowsill, sink, etc.
- Clean inside dresser drawers, cabinets, and your microfridge/refrigerator
- Appliances should be free of food items or other build up
- Ensure your floors are at least in broom-swept condition
- Be sure to clean the bathroom, including the shower and toilet
- Dispose of trash in designated trash and recycling areas
- If you are the last person checking out of a unit, be sure to double-check shared
spaces to avoid common area charges for all assigned residents
- If an item in the unit is broken or not working properly (toilet that fills constantly, leak, or other urgent items) please submit a work order at cnu.edu/help.
- Please do not submit work orders for normal wear and tear items.
- Work orders submitted for items considered damage may still result in the resident(s) being charged for the damage.
